Online Therapy

Are You Looking For An Online Alternative To In-Person Therapy?

Is overwhelming stress, anxiety, or depression preventing you from investing in traditional options for therapy? Has trauma or an adverse life experience limited your ability to feel safe enough in public to attend in-person counseling sessions?

Perhaps you are navigating a difficult life transition, such as changing careers, becoming a parent, or losing a loved one, that leaves little time to care for yourself. Or maybe you are the parent of a child or teen and you want to ensure their behavioral and emotional development using a means of communication they are already familiar with.

More often than not, individuals, couples, and families avoid traditional therapy because of high costs, transportation issues, and the social anxiety of being vulnerable in front of a stranger. However, online counseling eliminates many of the obstacles that bar people from getting the support they need.

Whether you are dealing with a mental health concern, a life transition, relationship problems, or family issues, online therapy allows you to communicate conveniently and comfortably. And instead of having to miss work or harmonize schedules, you can meet whenever it’s most feasible for you.

Whatever you are going through, our online counseling services at Alpenglow can help you heal, grow, and discover your potential for a happier, healthier life.

Despite Recent Popularity, Teletherapy Has Been Validated For Years

Virtual mental health counseling, in one form or another, has been a powerful alternative to traditional therapy for years. However, the COVID public health crisis has thrust online therapy services into the limelight because of the safety, convenience, effectiveness, and flexibility it affords. It also empowers therapists like us to be more accessible to clients who don’t have available resources in their area.

That can be a powerful asset in such a time of great uncertainty. Life is hard enough, but throw in the isolation and feelings of powerlessness that so many people are experiencing right now, it’s becoming more important than ever to invest in self-care. That’s why talking with a counselor online can be so beneficial: it can help individuals, couples, and families overcome adversity, manage symptoms, and improve overall well-being.

We understand that traffic, time constraints, and anxiety are all things that can make reaching out for help difficult. But online counseling is the perfect way to overcome problems on your own terms.

Online Therapy Can Reduce The Stress Of Seeking Help From Others

Many individuals come to counseling reluctant to share their story because they feel uncomfortable in a therapist’s office. Working online allows you to communicate from a place that feels safe and secure for you. Whether it’s in your car, from home, or on your phone—virtual counseling allows you to engage in therapy on your own terms. It also helps reduce the self-consciousness surrounding mental health counseling because you don’t have to worry about going into public or being seen by peers.

Some individuals prefer traditional counseling and are resistant to change because they are not truly aware of the freedom and flexibility that teletherapy offers. However, talking to a therapist online is extremely beneficial and—in many cases—more productive and cost-effective than meeting in person. And because our online therapy sessions are in compliance with HIPAA guidelines, you can rest assured that our conversations are completely confidential.

Whether in person or online, Alpenglow strives to provide quality, client-centered services using evidence-based practices that can be tailored to the specific needs of each client. Though online counseling can be a powerful alternative to in-person sessions, it’s not typically recommended for individuals with more complicated and significant diagnoses requiring higher levels of care or contact. In such cases, we can easily refer clients out to specialists trained to address those challenges.

Otherwise, all you need is dedicated internet access, a laptop, cell phone, or tablet, and a place in which you can speak candidly with your therapist. We use a HIPAA-compliant online portal for therapy sessions called Simple Practice, which is used for all appointments, messages, and payments. You can contact us to get started by calling or using our website to schedule a complimentary, initial consultation.

At that time, we can address any questions or concerns you have about our approach to counseling and mutually determine if we are a good fit. Whether we meet in person or online, our consultation will not involve any psychotherapy; it will simply be a chance to decide what’s best for you, so there is no obligation. If it turns out you’d like to work together, all you need to do is find a quiet place free of distractions where you can feel comfortable exchanging information freely.

Life seems like it’s busier and more uncertain than ever before, but you don’t have to let that get in the way of your self-care. Talking to a therapist online—whether it’s before the start of your day, during your lunch break, or after work—is a healthy way of taking care of yourself and protecting your future. With our help, you can heal old wounds, navigate difficult transitions, and learn to manage symptoms all from the comfort of your own home.

Perhaps you are considering online counseling, but you still have some questions…

Does online therapy work?

Because of the convenience it offers, working online encourages consistency in sessions that can be even more effective than traditional counseling. Whether you are dealing with anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship issues, or challenges with your child or family, online therapy can produce results. Many clients prefer the discrete nature of being able to log in for sessions wherever they want. Plus, if you feel like you are not making the progress you want to, we can always transition into in-person sessions.

I know web counseling is confidential, but how secure is my information?

At Alpenglow, your privacy is our top priority, so we make sure all clients are legally protected, using HIPAA-compliant software for all interactions. That said, it is equally important for you to take the necessary precautions to ensure privacy within your home and other spaces in which you choose to receive therapy. As long as your personal electronic devices are secure, you will be protected.

Will online therapy be covered by insurance?

We are an out-of-network provider; therefore, if you have out-of-network benefits through your insurance company, we will assist you in completing the paperwork for reimbursement. Please Note: after reimbursement, your out-of-pocket responsibility is often in line with standard co-pays. If you would rather not involve your insurance company as an added level of confidentiality, you also have the option for self-pay.

If you do not have insurance or out-of-network benefits and cannot afford the full fee, the Alpenglow Center reserves a specific number of Equity Sessions for which the fees are set based on a sliding scale. Equity Sessions fill up quickly, and since it is not possible to predict when someone will be done with their therapeutic journey, it is not possible to predict when a new opening will occur.

People can put their names on an informal waitlist and when an opening occurs, all parties will be contacted by email with openings all of which are filled on a first-come-first-served basis.
