ADOLESCENTS

Recent studies show mental health disorders are increasingly common among adolescents. At ETHOS, the truth of that distressing fact has been borne out by the number of families requesting mental health care for their adolescents who are already in treatment for substance use disorder.

Research indicates that 50% of all lifetime mental health illnesses begin by age 14, and that 60% of youth with major depression do not receive mental health treatment.

We started our Mental Health Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) for adolescents to ensure age-appropriate treatment is available at the onset of issues and throughout the teen years. The key to its success has been the ETHOS standard of manageable caseloads for therapists, keeping them small enough to allow time for truly individualized care.

We stress the importance of family involvement in all our adolescent programs. In addition, we offer a Family Program designed specifically for families of adolescents who are dealing with substance use and mental health complexities. Families are welcomed into this program even if their adolescent is not enrolled in one of our IOPs.
